Griff grew up playing piano and singing in various choirs. Both his parents had Masters’ degrees in music. He was also in marching and concert band in high school and college, and took up guitar in his early 50s (an act of rebellion against his classical-music upbringing). Depending on the instrument, you’ll get very different sounds out of him – filk, new age piano, and singer-songwriter.
Why Griff “the Filker”? Because there’s at least one other musician out there who goes by Griff, so this is a way to say he’s the one who does filk.
Griff has given many concerts since he entered filk. He was also nominated for the Writer/Composer Pegasus Award in 2025. He and his husband, Cozy Joe, write books together and separately, and are owned by an obstreperous tortoiseshell Maine coon cat named Molly.
